The day the Guinea Pig died

When it comes to ‘Mother of the Year Awards’ I can take out a few!.
I cannot say that I particularly loved Guinea Pigs but my daughter did and that made me happy so when her guinea pig became pregnant I kept a ‘bit’ more of an eye on her (the guinea pig not my daughter) than I usually would.
Well on this day in question I was home and it was raining so I checked on the guinea pigs in the garden and thought I had better bring her inside to the laundry.
I do not recall how I got her in the box as I was not keen on picking them up but I know she was alive at this time.
Throughout the day I checked on her and she had definitely been moving until a bit later in the day I noticed she was not moving.
I do not recall how long it was between seeing her move and not moving but anyway I knew the difference and I do recall thinking she may be in labour! (Don’t forget – I know nothing about Guinea Pigs).
Well, that afternoon my daughter came home from school and had one of her friends come home with her.
I said that I thought something was wrong with the guinea pig and decided to call the Vet (unfortunately or fortunately at no time did I ask my daughter to pick up her guinea pig).
I told the Vet that the Guinea pig was pregnant etc and that she was not moving so I was concerned she was not well so the Vet told me to bring her down.
I loaded the kids with the guinea pig in the box, into the car and drove to the Vets.
We all went in and I explained again about the day and how I was concerned.
Well picture it…. two kids standing to watch as the Vet listens to me, looks at the Guinea Pig and with his pen in his hand while still looking at me, flicks the guinea pig in the box rolling her over while saying “she’s dead!”.
My jaw dropped, two kids looked at me as if to say ‘what did he just say’ and I wished the ground would open up and swallow me but it didn’t.
The Vet kindly did not charge me anything for the consultation and we left the vets with the guinea pig in the box to return home for a burial.
